This was once a wayside cross that was found in use as a fencing post and
was taken into the churchyard for safekeeping, It is now a headstone
for the grave of William Sampson, a former Sexton and Bellringer of the
church.

Set on top of the roadside wall beside the Blackaton Bridge, about 1
kilometre to the north east of Gidleigh village.
Notes:
The cross is much damaged and now has only one arm and a very short length
of shaft showing.
