The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital / This Foundation Stone of the New Out-Patient Department was laid by the Right Worshipful the Mayor of Exeter James William Ackroyd Esquire on the 20th Day of February 1935.

This plaque is one of many that commemorates the route taken by Lieut. Lapenotiere, from Falmouth to London, to report the Victory at Trafalgar and the death of Lord Nelson, in October 1805.

The Cross serves as a War Memorial and the Literal Translation of the Latin: 'Te Deum Laudamus' is: 'You, God, We Praise'.
