![]() O/S Grid Ref: SX/68610/87139 Longitude/Latitude (Degrees+/-): -3.86064/50.66904 Map location: Click here to view map. Purpose: Memorial Cross. Size: The cross has not yet been measured, but stands around 8 feet (2.43 metres) tall. Information: This relatively modern cross is of the Maltese style, with the arms, head and shaft all being tapered inward towards the centre of the head. All the edges of the cross have been slightly chamfered making this quite an elegant memorial. At the front of the cross, the following leaded characters have been attached to the base of the shaft : M.A.L.C. 1908. This is in memory of Mary Ann Liggins Clampitt, whose family owned Coombe Farm, and who loved this place and the views it gave across the surrounding countryside. The position of the cross, from which there is a good view towards Kes Tor and the surrounding countryside, is set quite close to a rock basin. About 150 feet to the north west of the cross a granite tablet can be seen sitting flush with the ground. This tablet, again set with leaded characters, reads: IN LOVING MEMORY OF / MARY ANN LIGGINS CLAMPITT / OF COOMBE / DIED FEBRUARY 4TH 1908. Although she lived at Coombe for many years with her husband, Richard Clampitt, they have both been buried in the London Road Cemetery, Coventry. Our thanks to Bob Noakes for providing the photo for this cross.
